GSEB Question Papers

The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board or GSEB is a government of Gujarat body responsible for determining the policy-related, administrative, cognitive, and intellectual direction the state's higher educational system takes.

Academic

The main academic task of GSEB is the preparation of syllabus for secondary schools and also the recommendation of text-books to be taught in government schools. The Board also performs the duties of recognising new schools, performance evaluation of schools and inspections of various schools associated with the Board.

Examinations

The GSEB conducts 2 main examinations - The Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exam for Standard 10 and the Higher Secondary (School) Certificate (HSC) exam for Standard 12 students in Gujarat. The Board also holds a Talent Search for students of Std VIII & IX in five major subjects every year.

AIEEE Syllabus

The All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) is an examination organized by the Central Board of Secondary Education in India. This test is for admission to various under-graduate engineering and architecture courses in institutes accepting the AIEEE score, including 20 NITs. Students opting for B.Tech are tested in physics, mathematics and chemistry. The test duration is 3 hours but maximum marks and the number of questions vary every year.(Total marks were 315 in the year 2008, 360 in the year 2007 while it was 540 in 2006). However equal weightage is given to all the three sections. Students opting for B.Arch are tested in mathematics and an aptitude test. It is held in the final Sunday of April and results are announced near the end of May. Candidates are ranked on an all India basis and also according to their position in state. Thus, they have an All India Rank (AIR) and a state rank(SR).

Procedure

In 2007, around 8,50,000 wrote the AIEEE and in 2008 around 9,50,000 (a whopping 1,00,000 increment) applicants have already been registered making it one of the largest such admission exams in the world.

All candidates, with the exception of those performing very poorly, are eligible either for central counseling or state-specific or category-specific counseling on basis of their AIR. Counseling for SC/ST candidates and SC/ST physically handicapped candidates is done on the first two days of counseling. Then the physically handicapped in the Open (OP) category are counseled.

The Pattern keeps varying every year as declared by CBSE, the conducting authority of AIEEE. The level of questions follows the NCERT Syllabus of Class 11 and Class 12. From the past 2 years the total marks of the paper is being declared by CBSE in the prospectus without declaring the number of the questions appearing in the exam on the lines of IIT JEE.

In 2008, the AIEEE pattern was similar to that of IIT-JEE, with more applicative questions in mathematics and physics sections.

HBSE-Haryana board of School Education

HBSE Question Papers
The Board of School Education Haryana, Bhiwani came into existence in 1969 as per Haryana Act No. 11 of 1969 with its head-quarters at Chandigarh later shifted to Bhiwani in January 1981. The Board started with a staff of 100 officials allocated from Punjab University, Chandigarh and conducted the first examination of matriculation level (10th Class) in 1970. The Board started conducting the Middle examination with effect from 1976 to improve educational standards at Middle level. The Board adopted 10+2 pattern of education and conducted XII class examination under the new scheme with effect from 1987. It started conducting 10+2 Vocational examination in 1990, keeping in view the need and relevance of vocationalization of education in the backdrop of the fast changing economic scenario. Further, in order to reach out to the unreached, the Board established Haryana Open School in 1994 and thereby started bringing into the fold of education those who could not get formal education or could not continue it due to varied reasons.

Now, endowed with the strength of more than 800 officials/officers and examining 10 lakh + (one million +) candidates in examinations conducted by the Board, elaborate arrangements are made by the Board for the conduct of these examinations in a fair manner devoid of copying and other malpractices. Besides performing the function of conducting examination, the Board is earnestly committed to its long term goal of raising the standard of education in the State.

Keeping in view the twin ideals of maintaining sanctity as well as reliability of examinations on the one hand and overall improvement in the quality of education on the other, the Board has recently initiated various innovations in the different facets of school education. The wide spectrum of these reforms though unfolded with curbing unfair practices in the examination and stringent punishment laid out for the same, it entailed a reality check done on almost very aspect of the functioning of the Board and strong doses of reforms being introduced whenever and wherever required.

Substantial use of information technology has made this board a technology - savy organization and this has enormously benefited all the stakeholders, particularly the students. We are indeed exploring the other means and ways of getting innovative in our endeavour to improve the quality of education in the State of Haryana.

This Board has introduced the semester system of education from academic year 2006-2007. It is the first Board in India to do so. It is also the first Board to introduce relative grading, CCE (Continuous & Comprehensive Evaluation) in all board classes i.e. Middle, Secondary & Senior Secondary.

ICSE Indian Certificate of Secondary Education

The Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) examination is an examination conducted by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations for class 10, i.e., grade 10. It has been designed to provide an examination in a course of general education, in accordance with the recommendations of the New Education Policy 1986 (India), through the medium of English. The examination allows secure suitable representation of Governments responsible for schools (which are affiliated to it) in their States/Territories. Private candidates are not permitted to appear for this examination.

In all subjects other than Science and Computers, students must submit compulsory coursework assignments. In groups I and II they count for 20% of the student's performance in the subject; in group III the assignments count for 50%. In Science and Computers, students are tested on their labwork.

In subjects where there is more than one paper, the mark in the subject is calculated by taking the average of all papers in the subject.

*Subjects
Candidates appearing for the examination have to study seven subjects, with anywhere from 1 to 3 papers in each subject. The subjects allowed are:

Group I: All subjects in this group are compulsory.

* English - 1 Literature paper + 1 Language paper.
* History, Civics and Geography - 1 combined History and Civics paper + 1 Geography paper.
* A second language - 1 combined Literature and Language paper.

Group II: Though the students have a choice, it is generally assumed that they will take Mathematics and Science. Students wishing to take up other subjects must be apprised of the implications. They must study two subjects from this list:

* Mathematics - 1 paper
* Science - 1 Physics paper + 1 Chemistry paper + 1 Biology paper (with lab classes in all three)
* Economics - 1 paper
* Commercial Studies - 1 paper
* Technical Drawing - 1 paper
* A Modern Foreign Language - 1 paper
* A Classical Language - 1 paper
* Computer Science - 1 paper (with work on a computer)
* Environmental Science - 1 paper
* Agricultural Science - 1 paper (with relevant field work)

Group III: Any one of the following:

* Computer Applications - 1 paper (with work on a computer)
* Economic Applications - 1 paper
* Commercial Applications - 1 paper
* Art - 2 papers out of a total of 4 (with sculpting etc. to be taught in school)
* Performing Arts - 1 paper (with practical work in school)
* Home Science - 1 paper
* Cookery - 1 paper
* Fashion Designing - 1 paper (with relevant practical work)
* Physical Education - 1 paper (with practical work)
* Yoga - 1 paper (with practical work)
* Technical Drawing Applications - 1 paper
* Environmental Applications - 1 paper
* A Modern Foreign Language - 1 paper

The choice of subjects offered in Groups II and III depends on the school.

The certificate has international equivalence and is accepted by most international Universities.

Difficulties that student Experiences?
Examinations appear to be terrifying. Appearing in the exam strikes terror into the minds, but there is no way out.
But for some students exams are enjoyable experience. These are those categories of students who are consistent and up to date in their studies. They are self-confident and well prepared for the examinations.
Therefore one should not fear from it. The only way is to prepare for it. But there are many situations or problems that a student faces during preparing for examinations.
Some of the reasons are:-

Lengthy courses-> Nowadays, courses are very lengthy. On one subject there are many books that are required to study. A science stream student is required to study physics, chemistry, mathematics and sometimes computer science, biology. Student has to go to the laboratory for doing experiments regarding their subjects. This he fails to cope with other subjects.
For this it is necessary to maintain notes and consistency from staring.

Students start preparation late-> Its better to start studies from the beginning of the session. By doing regular studies, the fear of the exams vanishes. Students who start preparation late gets confused with which subject to start with and gets nervous.

Maintaining consistency in studies?

In examinations there are many papers and different paper requires different books for preparation. Therefore gets confused which book to study and prepare simultaneously for so many papers.
It is advisable to be calm. As “slow and steady” wins the race.
We should learn what have done in the school on the day it has been done. We have to stay up to date. If the student is up to date with his studies, the exams become an enjoyable experience for them. As during the exams they just have to revise what they have done.

Framing daily timetable?

Allotting time for different subjects is the best and essential for studies. During framing a time table one has to keep in mind the availability of the time and other factors.
First, try to gauge the time needed for other purpose and distribute the available time to studies. Keep in view how much work you can do in view of your own capacity.
It is advisable to have 3-4 hrs daily at home for study and preparation of notes in addition to their school and college hours.
Working on regularly on a time table becomes an asset in future walk of life. Life is precious and every moment should be used for beneficial purpose.

Ideal Time for Study?

Study is a good habit. One should study in the morning , when one is really fresh. Whenever a student feels fresh, he may take that time to study. The games period in the schools and college are meant for providing 'pleasant diversions' so that the student feel fresh after studies in the institutions. Thus whenever there is a situation of " calm and quietness', one should study. It is better avoid atmosphere where there is much noise and din. Even don't listen to songs while studying , it diverts the mind. Which makes you loose concentration.
Morning ,evening or noon, whenever a student finds "calm and quietness" , student should study.

Important Hints for study for Examination?

Examination is a pure art. Students those try to study every material of a topic for examination , sometimes get confused and don't get marks for the examination. Those who study little but important questions get more marks and better marks. The difference lies in the method of preparation for the examination.

Intelligent memorization and not a thoughtless cramming results in your success.

Higher Order Thinking Questions- a Necessity
In the Board’s question paper in Economics of Class XII, there will be higher order thinking questions of 15 to 20 marks. The objective is to assess the students’ understanding, analytical ability and interpretation.
In the course content for Economics, an attempt is made to introduce basic concepts used in the study of this subject. Many of these concepts are also interrelated.
Memorising these concepts and their relationship will not help in understanding the economic laws and principles. These have to be understood in totality by asking questions such as why and how and going a step further by applying them to various situations.
Some of these concepts are:
Marginal and average cost etc and their relationship.
Concept of equilibrium in microeconomics and in macroeconomics.
Concepts of elasticity.
Concepts of domestic product and national product.
Intermediate and final products.
Concepts of inflation, depreciation of domestic currency, etc.
Just memorising the meaning of concepts does not help in understanding the subject and the use of these concepts. For instance just memorising the meaning of average and marginal costs and their relationship will not help you in answering question, like.
Why must marginal cost curve pass through the minimum point of average cost curve? Or
If marginal revenue falls, will total revenue fall? Or
Are the wages and salaries received by Indians working in American Embassy in India a part of Domestic Product of India? Or
What are the main reasons for the present price rise in India? Or
Why must aggregate demand and aggregate supply be equal when the economy is in an equilibrium?
To give a practice of the application of these concepts and to test whether the students have really understood them, the situations from day to day life should be put before
them. They should then be asked to analyse them. Some topics can also be taken up for debate, such as “Are borrowings bad?” or “Is inflation harmful?”

Your Basic number sense, or your intuitive maths, can easy tell how well you fared in mathematics in the school as back as kindergarten, say scientists from johns Hopkins university.

The researchers say that a good"number sense" at age 14 can be easily linked with higher scores on standardization math tests thought a child's life up to that point.

Similarly, a weaker-"Number sense" at 14 predicts lower scores on those standardized tests.
"We discoverd that a child ability to qurickly estimate how many things in a group significantly correlates with that child's performance in school math for every single year, reaching all way back to when she or he was in kindergarten,"Nature magazine quoted Justin Halberda, assistant professor of psychological and brain sciences in the university's of krieger school of arts and science , as saying.

The study suggests that humans share a very basic" number sense" that enables them to calculate aproximately , for instance the no. of people in a subway car or bus.

During the study, the researchers sought to find weather the basic, seemingly innate number sense had any effect on the formal mathematics that people learn in school. They made 64 youngsters , all 14yr old, to look at a flashing group of yellow and blue dots on a computer screen, and asked them to guess which dots were more in no..

While the majority of children easily guessed the correct answer when there were only 10 blue and 25 yellow ones, some faces difficulty when the no. of dots were almost the same. The result helped researchers to see the accuracy of each child's " number sense".

Later,the researchers examined the teenager's record of performance in school till the time they were in kindergarten, and discovered that students having a acute no. sense also record a higher mathematics than those who showed weaker number sense, even after controlling for general intelligence and other factors.

"What this seems to mean is that very basic number sense that humans share with animals is related to the formal mathematics that we learn in school. The number sense we share with animals and the formal math we learn in school may interact and inform each other throughout our lives,"said Halberda.

Though the team found a strong correlation between number sense and scholastic math Achievement, Halberda cautioned against concluding that success or failure in maths was genetically determined and, therefore,immutable.

With the boards Exams coming , students are busy gauging their performance through the on-going pre-boards. But those who do not score well in these exams, need not feel dejected, say counselors. "If you score 60% in pre-boards , it does not mean that you cannot get 80% in final boards. There is a lot of parental and peer pressure on students . Just keep a positive approach , "said Charu sharma of Ramjas school, who counsels more than 10 students everyday on board issues.

While CBSE open its helpline in February, students have already started their in-house counselors. Though the stress level among students has come down over the years due to increased awareness, it helps if students can be guided on strategies for preparation." Students these days ask me if the marks of pre-boards are any indication of their performance in the Boards. They should understand that schools often mark the pre-board paper more strictly," said a counselor from a south Delhi School, who did not wished to be named. She further added, "Pre-boards are only an indication of preparation not performance. So students should identify their weakness and start working on them without feeling stressed.

Poonam Kamdar, counciellor of rukmini devi School, Pitampura Said that Pre-Boards are important to bring out the seriousness among the students as the timeallowed to finsh the paper and the pattern is same as in the bards. "This is the time when every student gets serious about Boards. At this stage, we tell the students to do at least three sample papers of every subject as they study at home. We also suggest they take care of their health".

The Central Board of Secondary Education is an eminent board of school education in India. The CBSE prepares the syllabus for Class 9 to Class 12 in schools affiliated with it.

It conducts two major examinations every year, the All India Secondary School Examination (AISSE) for Class 10 and the All India Senior School Certificate Examination (AISSCE) for Class 12, which is a school-leaving examination. Many private schools within and outside India are affiliated to CBSE. The medium for education prescribed by CBSE is either English or Hindi.

The CBSE also conducts the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) which is a common entrance examination conducted on all-India basis for admission to engineering and architecture/planning programmes in the country. Similarly Pre-medical and Pre-dental Tests AIPMT (PMT/PDT) are conducted for medical and dental colleges.

*History
The "United Provinces Board of High School and Intermediate Education" was the first Board set up in 1921 with jurisdictions over Rajputana, Central India and Gwalior. The Government of India in 1929 suggested to set up a joint Board to expand the jurisdiction and renamed it the "Board of High School and Intermediate Education, Rajputana", which included Ajmer-Merwara.

In 1952, as a result of the growth of State Universities and State Boards all over India, the constitution of Board was amended wherein its jurisdiction was extended to part-C and part-D territories and the Board was given its present name "Central Board of Secondary Education", it was in the year 1962 finally that the Board was reconstituted.

*Schools
There are a total of 9,689 schools from India and outside India affiliated to CBSE. As a result of the reconstruction, the Delhi Board of Secondary Education was merged with the Central Board and all the educational institutions recognised by the Delhi Board also became a part of the Central Board. The Board has grown from a group of 309 schools in 1962 to 5119 schools as on 25.9.98, which include 784 kendriya Vidyalayas, 1381 Government Schools, 2486 Independent Schools, 355 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas and 13 Adhoc Schools. There are also Indian schools in the Middle East and Southeast Asia that are affiliated to it.

*Examinations and results
CBSE examinations for classes X and XII are conducted in the month of March and the first week of April. The results are declared in the last week of May mostly in 2-3 phases. These results can be seen on the official site.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued notifications to all the heads of its affiliated institutions that students from Classes IX to XII must maintain a minimum of 75 per cent attendance in order to be eligible for taking the promotion examinations.

The circular, dated September 22, states, “No student from a school affiliated to the Board shall be eligible to take the examination unless he has completed 75 per cent of attendance counted from the opening of class IX/X/XI/XII up to the first of the month preceding the month in which the examination commences in the subject of internal assessment.”

PROPER SPACING of the lessons can dramatically enhance learning, according to a group of researchers, who added that larger gaps betwwen study sessions result in better recall of facts.

On the other hand,cramming-whether it's maths for a midterm or foreign language in anticipation of a trip abroad is not effective in the long haul, say the researchers.
Led by Hal pashler and John Qixted, professors of phychology at UC San Diego, the study has implication for education.
The study has been published in this month's issue of psychological science.

In the lights of the study, the co-authors write, "It appears no longer premature for psychologists to offer some rough practical guidelines to those who wishes to use study time in the most efficeient way possible to pramote longterm retention. "More than 1,000 subjects participated in three sessions. Tn the first session, they were taught a set of such obscure but true facts as: Norway is the European nation that consumes the spiciest mexican food; and Rudyard kipling invented snow golf.

The second session was a review of the same facts. Time between the session ranges from several minutes to serveral months. Study time was held constant in all the conditions. After some further delay, up to about one year, the subjects were tested.

Not suprisingly,when the interval between the second session and the test was increased,their memory got worse-reflecting the familar curve of forgetting. The interesting finding, however, was the increasing time between the study sessionns reduced the rate of forgetting. This reduction in forgetting was very large-sometimes increasing likelihood that information would recalled in the final session by 50 Percent
